Job Description

Solve ME/CFS Initiative has retained Witt/Kieffer to assist in the recruitment of a dynamic, innovative, entrepreneurial, and accomplished leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). SMCI is one of the world's leading non-profit organizations dedicated to conquering Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), which affects the lives of millions of people. SMCI has raised and committed $6 million to support ME/CFS related research to bring an end to the pain, disability, and suffering caused by the disease.

Based in Los Angeles, SMCI is a performance-based philanthropy organization and a national leader dedicated to supporting research and advocacy to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of ME/CFS. As breakthroughs in medical research creates new opportunities to address ME/CFS, the organization is positioned ideally to guide and catalyze a new wave of transformative research. As SMCI has grown in size, complexity and financial requirements, the need for proven business leadership and the urgency in raising the necessary capital to aggressively drive the research and advocacy agenda are at an all-time high. The new CEO will drive a high impact development strategy and must nurture the existing fundraising platforms, while developing new pipelines reaching beyond patients, friends and family networks.

The ideal candidate will have at least 7-10 years of senior level management experience in a not-for-profit, early stage or rapidly scaling organization. She/he will be able to provide strategic leadership and support to a strong management team, staff and national Board of Directors while driving a positive, collaborative culture across the organization. The new CEO will be a metrics-oriented leader and a strong, passionate, and high-profile advocate for SMCI's work. The ideal candidate will embrace the role as the voice and face of the organization and be compelled by delivering results with empathy and a sense of urgency for people with ME/CFS and family members.
