Do We Need a Student on the Search Committee?

Higher education search committees may hesitate to add students to their memberships, thinking it may complicate the recruiting process for presidents and other top leaders. However, the benefits of having student representatives on a committee far outweight the drawbacks, argues Dennis Barden in a recent Chronicle of Higher Education article. In particular, he notes, students understand one thing that is critical to leadership success on campus: cultural fit.
